Man remanded in prison for allegedly beating Kwara lawyer to stupor
One Toyin Hakeem, has been remanded over alleged assault on one Barrister Saludeen Olarongbe Abdulrahman.
Hakeem was remanded on the order of a Magistrate court, sitting in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State for allegedly assaulting the member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ilorin branch.
It was gathered that the legal practitioner had gone to introduce himself as the possessor of the property which Hakeem and other tenants are residing in when the assault happened.
The Direct Complaint filled before Magistrate Abdulraheem Bello, revealed that the complainant (the legal practitioner) went to the apartment of Hakeem, knocked the door without receiving any response from anyone.
It was gathered that the lawyer continued knocking the door presuming that Hakeem was home but has just decided to ignore the knock on his door.
It was also gathered that Hakeem, angrily opened the door while the lawyer told him he’s a legal practitioner, and the owner of property where he resides in but Hakeem instead requested that he present an Identification Card which the lawyer could not present at the time.
The Direct Complaint revealed that Hakeem rained abuses and insults on the lawyer and alleged him of being a fake lawyer, a thief of his car.
It was gathered that Hakeem descended on the barrister and assault him mercilessly with the help of two other persons whom he called for the act.
It was also revealed that the lawyer was thereafter tied down with rope.
He was also made to sleep facing the ground helplessly for 40 minutes before some stakeholders and elders in the area came to appeal on his behalf.
On the allegation of stealing a car, the lawyer has received the invitation of the Adewole police station where he was kept in detention and also at the headquarters of the police where he was kept in the cell for one day.
All attempts and efforts of the NBA to effect his from the detention of the police were reportedly unsuccessful.
The NBA Chairman, Barrister Gambari, who stood in for his colleague, told the court of the offence allegedly carried out by Hakeem and pleaded that he be remanded in order to serve as lesson to those who would want to involve themselves in molestation of others.
Magistrate Bello, the presiding judge directed the remand of Hakeem in a Correctional centre till December 5th.
