Man, 19, in court for brainwashing Ilorin Chief Imam’s daughter

A Kwara State magistrate court, on Wednesday, remanded a nineteen years old cloth weaver, one Sheu Abeeb for allegedly defaming the character of Chief Imam of Ilorin.

The defendant (Abeeb) was said to have condemned the chief Imam’s ways of practicing Islam and also brainwashed his daughter, Imam Bashir Asiata.

Police First Information Report, revealed that Abeeb sent series of text messages to Asiata with the aim of diverting her from Islamic doctrine and lure her into marriage.

Police report also noted that Abeeb insulted the Chief Imam and called him infidel when is being interrogated by the police.

The prosecutor, Makosa Olufolake, prayed the court to order the remand of the defendant saying the offences levelled against him is not ordinarily bailable.

The defendant counsel, Barrister Lukman Bello urged the court to discontenance the submission of the prosecutor on the basis that his client is still presumed innocent of the offences until proved otherwise.

Magistrate Biola Lawal, in his ruling, ceded to the submission of the prosecutor and ordered the remand of Seven while the matter was adjourned to 15th of this month.
