Less than 24 hours after ‘peace deal’, bandits attack Zamfara community, abduct over 50

In alarming reports from Zamfara state, armed bandits have abducted more than 50 individuals in a series of separate assaults.

On Monday morning, approximately 40 worshippers were taken during dawn prayers at a mosque in Gidan Turbe village, Tsafe LGA. According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the gunmen stormed the mosque around 5:30 am, surrounding the premises and seizing worshippers at gunpoint.

The assailants are believed to have moved their captives into the nearby forests around the Gohori axis in Tsafe, leaving the rural community in confusion and despair.

This incident follows just a day after reports emerged of a “peace deal” between local leaders and armed factions in Katsina and neighboring areas.

Sources inform Makama that this incident underscores the disarray among bandit groups, with negotiations in some regions failing to prevent ongoing attacks in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Kaduna.

In a separate occurrence on Sunday, 12 individuals were reportedly abducted from Godai village in Bukkuyum LGA. The gunmen opened fire indiscriminately, forcing residents to flee before fleeing with the victims toward Gyado forest.

The Zamfara police have confirmed receiving a distress call from a divisional police officer in Bukkuyum and state that security personnel were quickly dispatched to the scene.
