Legacy 2027 movement launched in Kwara to safeguard Gov. AbdulRazaq’s reforms
A new civic-political coalition, Legacy 2027: Kwara Continuity Movement (L27-KCM), has been officially unveiled in Ilorin with a strong commitment to defend, sustain, and consolidate the governance reforms credited to the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The movement was formally launched on Tuesday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Ilorin during its inaugural world press conference with the theme “From Liberation to Legacy: The Unfinished Revolution of a People’s Dream.”
Speaking at the event, the Convener and Co-Conveners, Hon. Ibrahim Akaje and Hon. Abdullahi Abdulmajeed described the initiative as a “generational compact” designed to ensure continuity of the governance culture ushered in by the 2019 Òtógé movement, which ended what they termed a history of political dominance, weak institutions, and stagnation in Kwara State.
They argued that the AbdulRazaq administration has redefined governance through prudence, accountability, inclusion, and measurable performance, citing infrastructure renewal, institutional reforms, social investment programmes, educational transformation, and economic diversification as key achievements.
According to the group, more than 1,200 kilometres of roads have been completed or ongoing, internally generated revenue has significantly increased, abandoned public projects have been revived, youth and women inclusion strengthened, while initiatives such as the Ilorin Innovation Hub, Visual Arts Centre, Garment Factory, International Conference Centre, Smart City project, and health and education sector reforms have positioned Kwara for long-term growth.
The movement also pledged to serve as a “firewall” against what it described as political forces seeking to reverse the gains recorded since 2019, insisting that Kwara must not return to “old political habits.”
Legacy 2027 also aligned itself with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing federal support and infrastructure interventions as vital to sustaining development in the state.
Beyond political advocacy, the group announced plans to implement empowerment programmes, launch a Legacy TV Network, facilitate stakeholder reconciliation, and promote credible succession planning ahead of the 2027 political cycle to ensure continuity of the current governance philosophy.
While acknowledging that not all challenges have been solved, the movement maintained that Kwara is “moving forward” and urged citizens to support ongoing development efforts. It also announced upcoming activities including multi-stakeholder dialogues, grassroots listening tours, consultations with progressive groups, and the launch of a comprehensive AbdulRazaq administration scorecard.
The Legacy 2027 Movement concluded with a call on Kwarans across political, professional, and social divides to join the initiative in safeguarding what it described as a transformational governance legacy for future generations.
