Leah Sharibu puts to bed in Boko Haram detention
Leah Sharibu, one of the schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi in Yobe State. since 19 February 2018, has delivered of a baby boy in Boko Haram captivity according to various reports.
In reports traced to Sahara Reporters and Daily Trust, the teenager who was 16 years old at the time she was captured alongside 110 of her schoolmates, was impregnated by a Boko Haram top commander.
No specific date was given regarding the time she put to bed, Sahara Reporters only revealed she gave birth ‘a few weeks ago’.
Daily Trust however said she gave birth in Niger Republic on Saturday 25 January.
According to the reports, Leah was coerced to accept Islam before she was married off to the Boko Haram commander, whose identity is remains in the dark, but who Daily Trust said operates from Niger Republic.
The Daily Trust also gathered that the insurgents had wanted to free Leah few months ago but were force to detain her due to her pregnancy.
The report may definitely bring a stain on the relationship between the Buhari administration and the Christian leaders, who have mounted local and international pressure on the presidency over the release of Leah.
Last week, one of the aid workers released by the insurgents, Jennifer Ukambong Samuel, disclosed that Leah Sharibu was alive.
Jennifer, an employee of the Action for International Medical Alliance when she was captured in December last year, said she met another abductee of the organization who claimed that Leah was alive and hidden in an unknown vicinity.
