Labour Party campaign DG pays N13m fine to escape jail term

Doyin Okupe, The Director-General of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), who was sentenced to two and half years imprisonment for breaching the Money Laundering Act has escaped jail term by paying fine of N13million naira

The Informant247 gathered that Okupe succeeded in paying his fine before the deadline and was allowed to go.

A source said, “Okupe has paid; they returned with the bank papers around 4.25pm. The court processed it, and everybody signed, including the EFCC lawyer.”

Shortly after his release, Okupe tweeted, “God is not man. The enemies have tried in so many ways but kept on failing. Victory is of God.”

Informant247 reports earlier that the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja sent Okupe to prison in connection with money laundering

Meanwhile, Okupe was initially convicted of the offence by a Federal High Court presided by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu on Monday.

Justice Ojukwu found Okupe guilty of contravening sections 16(1)&(2) of the Money Laundering Act and accepting cash in excess of the threshold allowed under the Act without going through a financial institution.
