KWEPA seals off house for violating environmental laws

No fewer than six units rooms building in Ilorin violating environmental laws have been ssealed off by the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA).

The Informant247 gathered that the building, located at Onikun-Kewu Street, Adabata area of the State, was sealed off today at about 2:30 pm.

The Acting General Manager of the Agency, Hajia Idayat Folorunsho Adeola, while leading the enforcement team, said the Agency received a complaint from a resident in the community that occupants of the house exposed human excreta to the environment through their defective soak away.

She explained that the acts of the occupants of the building are hazardous to the health of residents in the area,
hence, the decision of KWEPA to seal off the building was to enforce compliance with the extant environmental laws and prevent the community from epidemics such as cholera.

The General Manager explained further that the occupants of the building also failed to comply with the abatement notice earlier served on them, contrary to the provisions of the health and environmental laws of the State.

She assured that the Agency would not hesitate to take legal actions against individuals or premises whose acts violate environmental laws.

Hajia Idayat then urged Kwarans to cooperate with environmental health officers while carrying out house-to-house inspections to prevent the outbreak of diseases.
