Kwara United set to face Ghanaian giants, Asante Kotoko, after away draw with Warri Wolves

Kwara United FC are now battle ready for their CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round clash against Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana, on Sunday.

The Harmony Boys are expected to travel to Ghana this week for the clash even as they head back to Ilorin on Monday from Ozoro in Delta State.

Kwara United on Sunday evening held the newly promoted side Warri Wolves to goalless draw in their home ground Delta University Stadium, Ozoro in their NPFL matchday four encounter.

The draw followed their 2-0 win over Kun Khalifat FC on the matchday 3 last week Sunday in Ilorin.

It was another impressive outing for the Harmony Boys on Sunday at Ozoro where they started the game on the front foot, dictating the pace and controlling the midfield to the admiration of fans and spectators.

In the 25th minute, Johnmark Aule Shirsha almost gave Kwara United the lead when his shot caught the Wolves goalkeeper off guard, forcing him to push the ball out for a corner in what was a nervy moment for the hosts.

Despite continued pressure, Warri Wolves failed to create any clear-cut chances, and the first half ended goalless.

The hosts came out strong in the second half, but Kwara United’s backline stood firm, with GK Suraj Ayeleso, Kabiru Muhammed, Saheed Olaniyi, Ibrahim Yahaya, and Victor Adeoye putting in a resolute defensive display to keep the game level.

In the 58th minute, substitute Obiorah Kingsley — who replaced Babatunde Bright — forced another save from the Wolves goalkeeper with a powerful strike, but the Harmony Boys were again denied.

The referee handled proceedings well, keeping the game under control and preventing unnecessary antics from both sides.

Warri Wolves had a late opportunity, but Kwara United’s defence stood tall to secure a share of the spoils.

After the match, Head Coach Tunde Sanni praised his players for their composure and resilience under pressure, describing the result as a good boost ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup fixture.

He said “It was a good game and a good test ahead of Asante Kotoko. I believe Asante cannot do more than what Wolves did here today, and if we can survive this, we can survive in Ghana”

The Harmony Boys now have 5 points from 4 games and are now seated 12th on the log.

The match against the Ghana giants at the Accra Sports Stadium beginning from 4pm Nigerian time.

The return leg of the game is expected to take place on Sunday 28th of September.
