Kwara plans roundtable, visits to Sobi hills, others ahead of world tourism day 2025

The Kwara State Government has announced plans to join the rest of the world in celebrating the 2025 World Tourism Day with a roundtable discussion and visits to key tourist attractions, including the historic Sobi Hills, as part of activities lined up for the annual event.

According to a statement obtained by The Informant247, the celebration, themed “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2025, in Ilorin.

Speaking ahead of the event, the State Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bola Olukoju, said the day is observed globally to highlight the significance of tourism and its role in supporting local infrastructure and development.

She noted that this year’s edition will place emphasis on promoting environmentally responsible travel and minimising harm to local communities, while ensuring tourism delivers lasting benefits for future generations.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the Kwara State Hospitality and Tourism Development Board, Hajia Ramat Adenike Akanni, explained that a roundtable discussion will be held during the celebration to address challenges facing the tourism sector and explore ways to overcome them.

She added that visits to Sobi Hills and other notable tourist sites will follow the discussion as part of the activities marking the global event.
