Kwara PDP debunks false appreciation message linking Kale Kawu to LG election support

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly refuted claims that an appreciation message circulating online, supposedly from the “PDP Grassroots Movement,” is genuine.

The party clarified that the so-called forum is non-existent, and any suggestions that Engineer Kale Kawu financially supported the party during the recently concluded local government elections are completely unfounded.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, September 29, 2024, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the state’s Publicity Secretary, condemned the false publication.

He asserted that Engineer Kawu did not make any financial contributions towards the PDP’s candidates, contrary to claims circulating online.

Adewara emphasized that the party keeps detailed records of supporters who provided financial or logistical help during the elections, many of whom publicly announced their contributions.

“There is no record of Engineer Kale Kawu offering any support to the PDP, either for chairmanship or councilorship candidates,” the statement read.

The PDP also disclosed that a recently created WhatsApp group, managed by what it described as “fifth columnists,” has been attempting to falsely link Kawu to the party.

The group reportedly offered PDP members ₦40,000 to post fabricated social media testimonies alleging Kawu’s involvement with the party.

The PDP urged its members to avoid any dealings with these individuals and reiterated that it would not allow external actors to manipulate the party for selfish purposes.

Despite distancing itself from the false claims, the PDP acknowledged Engineer Kawu as a respected figure within the Ilorin Emirate and praised his contributions to the community as a public servant and philanthropist.

The party, however, clarified that Kawu is not currently affiliated with the PDP in Kwara State.

“We want to make it clear that Engineer Kale Kawu is not a member of the PDP at any level within Kwara State, and the public should disregard any false narratives suggesting otherwise,” Adewara concluded.

The PDP reaffirmed its open-door policy, stating that while it would welcome Kawu if he ever chose to join the party, there is currently no relationship between him and the PDP.
