Kwara moves to create ATCs in Kaiama, Baruten, Asa, Ifelodun to boost agricultural production

In a bid to boost agricultural production, the Kwara State Government has disclosed that its agro-industrialization programme is underway, leading to the establishment of Agricultural Transformation Centres (ATCs) in Kaiama and three other local government areas including Baruten, Asa and Ifelodun local government areas of the State.

The Coordinator, Kwara Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ ) Project, Engr. Dr. Busari Toyin Isiaka made this known on Friday while speaking during the sensitisation exercise and engagement of community stakeholders in the Kaiama local government area.

Busari noted that the motive behind the project was the government’s resolve to tackle unemployment among youths, boosting the economic life of women and transforming the agricultural landscape of the state.

Represented by Engr. Dr Ezekiel Olanrewaju Ariyo, the Project’s Infrastructure of the Kwara SAPZ, the Coordinator explained that the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is reshaping the agricultural narrative in the State by positioning agriculture as a business.

The Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Sheu Omar Muazu, commended the governor for harnessing the agricultural advantages of Kwara to improve the State’s economy and create employment opportunities, adding that through involvement in several agrarian initiatives, the governor is setting enduring legacies for Kwarans and prayed to God to make the project a reality.

Another traditional Chief in Kaima, Alhaji Ahmed Ibn Muhammed, who was the Kiwazi of Wazibe, drew the attention of the government to the agricultural heritage of the people of Kaiama, stressing that the resources in the area make it fit for the agro-industrialization project.

He further called on the government to fix the feeder roads in the area, emphasising the importance of good roads to agricultural production in the area.
