Kwara lawmaker, Owolabi surprises pupils, pay up school fee
His entry into his home town, the ancient city of Share, the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State was greeted with much accolades and encomium as both old and young, men and women, stormed roadsides to welcome their illustrious son, Honourable Rasaq Olatunde Owolabi.
After paying homage to the mother of his Personal Assistant, Hajia Agbana Ajarat, at Ayee compound, the lawmaker headed to Muslim Community Primary school where he graduated in 1989.
He was welcomed with lots of cheers by both the pupils and the teachers of the school who were unarguably, expectant of his coming.
In a swift action, the school authority gathered the pupils on Assembly ground where the lawmaker addressed them.
Owolabi, while informing the pupils that he was a goal keeper that represented the school to win troupes in the early 80s, announced that his major purpose of visit to the school is to complete the process of paying their fees.
After handing over the cash amount covering the fee, for the total number of 242 pupils of the school, to the Head Mistress, Mrs B. F Muhammed, the Share born politician adviced them to study hard so as to be great in future.
He said they should abstain from all manners of act that could land them in prison or cut short their lives.
The HM, in her remark, appreicated Owolabi for showing the spirit of love and for ensuring better future for the school children.
“We’ve never witnessed this kind of gesture in this school. Owolabi is exceptionally good to us and everyone can testify. His presence is surprising to me and to the staff.
Also appreciating the humanitarian service of member of the state House Of Assembly, is, Mrs Kafayat Bukola Abdulateef, who said Owolabi has done a lots for the upliftment of the school.
Abdulateef called on well meanings Kwarans especially the politicians to emulate Owolabi’s gesture saying education must be given utmost priority.
“We are full of appreciation today, the parents of these pupils are also joyful for this kindness that will in a great impacted meaningfully on parents’ economic lives.
“But, we have dealth of classrooms, we need more. Today, we combine pupils of different classes together under one roof. This development is not good for learning.
“Erosion has been our major concern during raining season, we appeal government to do something about it as we are fast approaching raining season.”
