Kwara: Gunmen kidnap four guests returning from naming ceremony

No fewer than four persons, including a vigilante, have been kidnapped by suspected gunmen in Asa local government area of Kwara State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening in Aboto village, Asa local government area of the state

It was learned that the hoodlums in their numbers reportedly ambushed some guests who were heading to Ilorin from a naming ceremony held in Aboto.

Saka Ibrahim, chairman of the vigilante in Kwara State, confirmed the incident in a telephone chat with newsmen on Thursday.

According to him, “A local who had a naming ceremony for his child was taking some guests home after the programme when his car was ambushed.

“Three male guests and one of our vigilante officials who tried to rescue them were Kidnapped in the process. He was not wearing a uniform and did not bear any arm.

“Our men have been searching the bush for their whereabouts since then but no progress yet”.

Saka expressed deep concern that the situation has been “really troubling because the abductors are yet to contact any of the victim’s family for ransom”.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, SP Okasanmi Ajayi could not confirm the incident.

Okasannmi who said that he was yet to be briefed on the incident said that he was out of the state on official duty.

He said, “I am not aware of the incident, I have been out of the state on official duty. I will contact the DPO and get in touch with you later”, he said.
