Kwara govt urges tertiary institutions to engage in food production to boost economy

The tertiary institutions in Kwara State have been asked to engage in school farming to increase food production and promote economic growth.

The call was made by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr Mrs Mary Arinde, on Tuesday while featuring on a radio programme at Alubarika FM in Ganmo, Ifelodun area of the state.

The Commissioner, while highlighting the benefit of farming in state’s institutions, said Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led state government has directed all heads of institutions and the Ministry to work together to promote farming in their schools to enhance food production and stimulate economic growth.

She highlighted the recent achievements of the government in the Ministry of Tertiary Education including the provision of two hundred and fifty computers to the Computer Based Centre (CBT) in Igbaja, the provision of scholarships for all Kwara State Law students, and the establishment of the Kwara State University of Education as well as the completion of the Osi and Ilesha Baruba, Kwara State University (KWASU) Satellite Campuses as extensions of KWASU.

The Commissioner urged all heads of institutions to serve as good ambassadors and continue to support the efforts of the present administration to propel the State to greater heights.
