Kwara govt splits Works, Agric ministries, names new ministry
The Kwara State Executive Council on Tuesday approved the restructuring and creation of two new ministries to enhance efficiency, improve coordination, and align governance with the state’s growing developmental priorities.
The decision was made at a cabinet meeting presided over by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The memorandum, presented by the Acting Head of Service, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammed, saw the Ministry of Livestock Development carved out of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to bolster food security and strengthen livestock development across the 16 local government areas.
The new ministry will play a crucial role in supporting farmers, herders, processors, and distributors across the livestock value chain, according to the memorandum.
According to a statement by Bola Olukoju, the Commissioner for Communications, the council also approved a proposal to carve out the Ministry of Transportation from the Ministry of Works and Transport.
The statement said the restructuring is designed to establish a more effective and well-organized transportation management system, ensuring seamless mobility for residents and optimising the state’s expanding infrastructure network.
The council approved for the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Agency (KWARTMA) to be under the Ministry of Transportation instead of the Ministry of Works.
With these adjustments, Kwara State now has 22 ministries, up from 20, marking another step in the Governor AbdulRazaq-led administration’s efforts to strengthen governance and streamline public service delivery.
