Kwara govt provides relief materials to Alore fire disaster victims

Following a devastating fire incident that occurred at Ile Alaparan-Sayi compound, Alore in Ilorin, which claimed the life of a 41-year-old man named Abdulfatai Abdulrasaq, and the destruction of property worth millions of Naira, the Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq directed the State Emergency Management Agency (KWASEMA) to provide relief materials to the victims, alleviating their suffering during this challenging period.

The Informant247 reports that a fire incident caused by ignition in a room storing combustible materials, including petrol, batteries, and a tyre inflator engine, engulfed at least 35 rooms.

In a statement by Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity, said the firemen while responding to a distress call, arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire, preventing its spread to other areas.

The statement, while stating that five rooms were affected, added that 30 rooms were successfully saved.

Commenting on the victim of the fire incident, Adekunle said the deceased had come to spend the night at a friend’s residence but was unable to escape due to intense smoke, which rendered him unconscious, adding that his body was handed over to his family after the firefighting operation.

However, the relief materials provided by the state government  to the victims include:

1. Rice
2. Cement
3. Roofing sheets
4. Nails
5. Mattresses
6. Salt, Spaghetti, Vegetable oil etc.

These essential household items will help alleviate the immediate needs of the affected families and support them in rebuilding their lives.

Mallam Saadu Mogaji, Secretary of KWASEMA, emphasized the importance of adhering to safety practices and avoiding harmful behaviours that can cause fire disasters, particularly during the dry season.

The Kwara State Fire Service played a crucial role in managing the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjacent houses and shops. The Special Adviser on Special Duties, Alh. AbdulRasaq Jiddah, accompanied by KWASEMA, conducted an assessment exercise to sympathize with the victims and evaluate the extent of the damage.

In response, the victims express profound gratitude to the Kwara state government for bringing prompt succour to their plight in such a time frame.
