Kwara govt commended for swift release of health funding
The Kwara State Government has garnered praise from health sector stakeholders following its recent prompt payment of the State’s counterpart fund for the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), a vital initiative aimed at strengthening Primary Health Care across Nigeria.
During a quarterly meeting of the State Oversight Committee (SOC) held at the Ministry Headquarters on Fate Road in Ilorin, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, acknowledged the state’s commitment to prioritizing public health.
As Chairperson of the SOC, she expressed heartfelt appreciation for the timely release of these essential funds, which she remarked underscores the Governor’s dedication to enhancing the health and well-being of the people of Kwara.
Dr. El-Imam elaborated that the payment of the counterpart fund will directly lead to expanded healthcare services at all BHCPF-accredited Primary Health Centres (PHCs) throughout the state. She highlighted that this funding is particularly important for improving access to essential health services for vulnerable groups in rural and underserved communities.
“With this financial backing, we are optimistic that service delivery at the grassroots level will see significant enhancement, which will, in turn, ease the burden on our secondary and tertiary health facilities, positively impacting our overall health outcomes,” she stated.
In her address, Dr. El-Imam also urged SOC members to strengthen their monitoring and evaluation efforts to ensure the effective and transparent use of the funds, reiterating the critical importance of accountability in maintaining public confidence in health programs.
