Kwara govt clarifies position on vehicular restriction from govt house road
The Kwara State Government has clarified its position over restricting motorcycles, tricycles, commercial vehicles, and heavy-duty vehicles of certain categories along Ahmadu Bello Way, GRA, Ilorin, Kwara State capital.
The government, through the Ministry of Works and Transport, while clarifying, said mini-shuttle buses, taxis, and ride-hailing vehicles are permitted to operate on the Ahmadu Bello Way, which sits the Government House, MDAs, security installations, and other facilities.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, the ministry, said the clarification was necessary for public information, adding that security considerations drove the step taken to ensure improved public order along the road
Background of the story
The Informant247 had earlier reported that the state government had banned commercial vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, and trailers from plying Ahmadu Bello Way, GRA, Ilorin.
The Ministry of Works and Transport, while making announcements in its efforts to ensure a siren environment along the government house of Kwara state, said any offender who violates this order would pay an N50k fine
The restriction notice was issued on Friday, the 8th of November,2024, by the Ministry of Works and Transport with a directive to Kwara State Road Traffic Management Agency (KWARTMA) to commence enforcement with immediate effect
Ahmadu Bello Way is the road network that links to Government House
The ministry said it had commenced the erection of restriction signages at some designated spots from Challenge through Ahmadu Bello Way.
While reacting to the development, the Ag.Chief Executive Officer, KWARTMA, Engr. Bamidele Michael expressed its readiness to enforce this government directive while affirming that the move is to complement the existing “No Parking” signs on major roads and also to enhance safety and security.
He also stated that traders are warned to desist from carrying out trading activities on the Walkways which were made for pedestrians, particularly in some areas including Ojaoba, Gambari, Ita-Amodu, Agaka, Adifa, Gambari, Balogun Fulani, Emirs Road, Post office to Challenge and Muritala Muhammed way among many others while taking into cognisance the dangers associated with road encroachment.
Unlike the “No Parking” sign, the restriction “NOT ALLOWED” sign along Ahmadu Bello Way bears a stiffer fine of #50,000 for violation of the order, and other measures shall be employed to ensure compliance.
Public members are hereby advised to cooperate with the State Government in achieving a safer road meant for the betterment of all.
