Kwara govt begin cleanup of Illegal dump sites in Ilorin metropolis
The Kwara State Government has launched an operation to clear illegal dump sites throughout the Ilorin metropolis. The initiative aims to maintain a clean and hygienic environment in the state capital and deter residents from indiscriminate refuse dumping.
The flag-off ceremony, which took place at the ministry’s premises, was officiated by Mallam Shehu Ndanusa Usman, the Commissioner for Environment.
The Commissioner articulated the purpose of the cleanup effort, stating, “With the support of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Ministry has embarked on the evacuation of illegal dump sites across the Ilorin metropolis as part of our commitment to preserving a clean and hygienic environment and promoting a healthy lifestyle. This exercise will persist until all illegal dump sites are cleared.”
In addition to the cleanup operation, the Commissioner issued a stern warning to Ilorin residents against haphazardly discarding refuse, emphasizing that violators will face legal consequences.
He took the opportunity to call upon both individuals and corporate organizations to collaborate with the current administration in eliminating indiscriminate refuse dumping, ultimately achieving a clean and hygienic environment within the state.
Among the areas already cleared of illegal dump sites are Admiralty Villa, Sakele, and Airport Road.
