Kwara govt approves new generating set for Juvenile Correctional Centre

The Kwara State Government, through the Ministry of Social Development, in its reiterated commitment to ensuring the welfare of the inmates at the State Juvenile Correctional Centre, approved a new generating set to provide constant access to electricity at the facility.

Hon. Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh, the state Commissioner for Social Development, while disclosing this during her visit to the State Juvenile Correctional Centre, Oko-Erin, Ilorin, assured the inmates of the government’s continued support while urging them to turn a good leaf, as she promised them of a better life ahead.

She said, “I want to believe all of you were found wanting of one misconduct or the other; the essence of putting you here by law is to correct your mistakes, granting you the opportunity to retrace your steps and prepare you to become a better person in life.”

She admonished the inmates to shun social vices and various hardened behaviours that led them to their present predicament, reiterating that a bright future and a good name are only earned through good moral conduct and prayer.

Hon. Buraimoh, who was later conducted around the premises of the Centre by the officer in charge, Mr Joseph Usman, accessed the facilities, interacted with the inmates and shared items with them.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Peter Kayode Ayanwale, urged the inmates to make good use of the Commissioner’s advice and have a good plan for their future, which will better their lives subsequently after their release from detention.

In his vote of thanks, the Officer in charge, Mr Joseph Usman, commended the Commissioner for the visit and the constant provision for inmates at the Centre while appreciating Governor AbdulRazaq-led government for supplying the necessary facilities to comfort the inmates.

“It gives me pleasure to welcome the Honourable Commissioner and your entourage to the Juvenile Correctional Centre, Oko-Erin, Ilorin. This is very clear that you are ready to make positive changes in this Ministry”, he said.
