Kwara Governor prioritizes water safety, donates life jackets to Patigi community

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, showcased his commitment to water safety by presenting over 1,000 life jackets to the residents of Patigi.

This initiative aims to prevent drowning and fatalities in case of unfortunate incidents during water travel.

The Governor handed the life jackets to Etsu Patigi, Alhaji Umar Bologi II, following a meeting with prominent traditional rulers who provided updates on security matters and the general well-being of the populace.

AbdulRazaq emphasized that the provision of life jackets will also extend to Edu local government and other riverine areas, demonstrating his dedication to enhancing safe water travel across the state.

He stated, “This marks the initial phase of life jacket donations to the people of Patigi Local Government. Our efforts will extend to Edu Local Government as well, ensuring that we equip our citizens along the River Niger banks and within riverine communities with sufficient life-saving gear. It’s an ongoing process addressing health and safety concerns.”

Present at the event were Hon. Jide Asonibare, the state Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON); Etsu Patigi Alhaji Umar Bologi II, Vice Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs; Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye, Olofa of Offa; Oba Ismaila Yahaya Alebiosu, Olupo of Ajase-Ipo; Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar, Emir of Kaiama; and Oba AbdulRaheem Oladele Adeoti, Olomu of Omu Aran.

Etsu Bologi II expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq for his proactive measures to safeguard the residents. He believed that this effort would significantly reduce the risk of boat accidents within the area and enhance safety.

“On behalf of myself and the entire people of Patigi Emirate Council, we want to sincerely thank His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for this wonderful donation of life jackets to our riverine communities, mainly consisting of farmers and fishermen,” he conveyed. “Thank you very much, Your Excellency, and we pray Almighty Allah to guide and protect you, uplift your government, and grant you continued success.”

In recent times, the Kwara State Government sent a delegation to the Lagos Office of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) to strengthen water travel and safety efforts.
