Kwara empowers youths with practical skills for modern mechanised agriculture

As part of efforts to strengthen mechanised agriculture and prepare young individuals for opportunities in modern farming, the Kwara State has engaged in the five-day Federal Tractor Operators Training Programme at the Agricultural Mechanics Machinery Operators Training Centre (AMMOTRAC), Akure, Ondo State.

The programme, which started on 6 October 2025, exposed participants to identification of tractor parts and implements, rudimentary driving and operation, and the handling of tractors with attached implements such as trailers.

By gaining these skills, participants stand to become certified operators who can support farmers across the State, reduce dependence on manual labour and boost farm output. This in turn will strengthen the agricultural workforce and contribute to food security in Kwara.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Afees Abolore Alabi, while commending the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for providing full support for participants, noted that the programme was a golden opportunity for Kwara youths to acquire technical competence that improves efficiency and competitiveness in farming.

Dr Abolore also lauded the the Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his support, describing him as a visionary leader whose commitment to youth empowerment and agricultural transformation continues to place Kwara at the forefront of innovative practices that strengthen food security and economic growth.

The commissioner, however, urged stakeholders, particularly youths, to continue to embrace opportunities provided through government initiatives, as Kwara advances towards a more productive and food-secure future.
