Kwara begins construction of speedbreakers to curb Okolowo autocrash

The Kwara State Government has launched the construction of speedbreakers on the Oko-Olowo expressway, an effort aimed at reducing the frequency of accidents and safeguarding the lives and properties of residents.

This initiative received the green light from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and was spearheaded by the Kwara Ministry of Works under the leadership of Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo.

The decision comes in response to persistent reports from the community regarding accidents on the road, with residents previously appealing to the government for intervention—requests that were overlooked by the former PDP-led administration.

In April, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, hinted at ongoing efforts to secure approval for this vital project, describing it as a temporary measure designed to bolster safety on the expressway.

After Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq approved the intervention, residents confirmed on Monday that speedbreakers are now being constructed on both sides of the bustling thoroughfare.

Ibraheem Abdullateef Akolu, the Senior Special Assistant on Communication to the Governor, underscored the administration’s commitment during a community assessment of the construction. He reaffirmed the Governor’s reputation as a “promise keeper.”

Additionally, Abdullateef mentioned that FRSC officials have been strategically positioned at various points along the Shao-Oko-Olowo junction to enforce traffic regulations and ensure the safety of the community.

Community members have expressed their gratitude for this timely intervention, praising the Governor as a proactive and responsive leader who prioritizes the safety and welfare of the state’s citizens.
