Kwara Assembly passes N162bn 2020 budget

…Increases AbdulRazaq’s proposal by N427m

The Kwara State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed N162,487,666,170 as the 2020 budget as against the N162,060,661,985 proposed by Governor AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq to the Assembly on December 18, 2019.

The Assembly decision followed the adoption of the report of its Committee on Appropriation at plenary.

SOBI FM’s House of Assembly Correspondent, Dare Akogun, reported that some of the members who spoke on the budget urged all sectors to be accorded due consideration as enshrined in the budget through effective oversight functions to meet the yearnings and expectations of Kwarans.

Speaking after considering the budget, Akogun reported Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu to have said the budget would go a long way towards the development of the state.

“The Appropriation seeks to improve on the infrastructure in the state, in the areas of education, health, rural development and social infrastructure.”

The appropriation bill was increased with N427million representing 0.6 percent, increment of capital expenditure from 53 to 55.5 percent and reduction of recurrent expenditure from 47 percent to 44.9 percent.

Akogun further reported that the House directs the Ministry of Finance and Planning to ensure monthly allocation to ministry, department and agencies of government are released on line with the approved 2020 appropriation bill.

Recall that the governor during the budget presentation said the N163bn fiscal plan comprises 53% capital expenditure covering road construction and rehabilitation, rehabilitation and re-equipment of schools and hospitals, rehabilitation of court rooms, and completion of a 500-seater hall building at the House of Assembly.
