KWAM 1 faces six months flying ban after airport incident
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that popular Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, famously known as KWAM 1 or K1 De Ultimate, has been blacklisted from flying within Nigeria for a six-month period.
Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, disclosed this decision during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
The action was taken following KWAM 1’s reported unruly behavior at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, where he allegedly spilled alcohol on an airline staff member during the boarding of a flight on Tuesday.
Achimugu stated, “No individual, no matter how influential, is above the rules that govern civil aviation conduct. We are taking this step to ensure that standards are upheld and airport workers are protected from harassment.”
The incident, which took place earlier in the week, has drawn significant public criticism after the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed that KWAM 1 exhibited disorderly conduct during the boarding process.
FAAN released a statement noting that the musician was seen holding a bottle of an alcoholic beverage and spilled its contents on a cabin crew member. This behavior was described as “unacceptable” and a violation of aviation safety protocol.
A FAAN spokesperson remarked, “The behaviour displayed by the passenger was completely out of line with safety and hospitality standards. We will not condone actions that threaten the integrity of airport operations.”
In response to the allegations, KWAM 1 has denied any wrongdoing, asserting that the bottle contained water, not alcohol. His team further stated that he was offered an apology, emphasizing that if there had been any inappropriate conduct, senior officials from FAAN, NCAA, and the airline would not have personally reached out to him.
