Kunle Afolayan reacts to Oscar’s rejection of ‘Anikulapo’
After the Nigeria Oscar Selection Committee declined to consider his most recent film “Anikulapo” for an award, well-known filmmaker Kunle Afolayan responded.
In his story “Anikulapo,” Afolayan tells the tale of Saro, a zealous traveller who entered the kingdom of Oyo in search of greener pastures. However, as events progressed and he had an affair with the Alaafin’s wife, Saro met an untimely end.
He had a magical avian encounter that gave him strength and provided him a new life beyond his wildest fantasies.
The award-winning movie producer showed happiness as he thanked everyone for calling his most recent effort, which was launched on September 20, 2022, a “masterpiece,” as reviews for it keep coming in.
The 48-year-old entertainment mogul committed to continuing giving every one of his projects his all while being unhappy that the Nigerian Oscar selection committee did not deem his film deserving of being considered for an Oscar nomination.
He wrote: “I am so pleased and delighted that the whole world has decided to tag ANIKULAPO film a masterpiece even though the Nigeria Oscar selection committee thinks it’s not worth submitting for the Oscars. Will keep doing my own thing.”
