Kogi State Varsity, Kabba bill gets approval as gov’t plans to raise 15bn start-up fund

The memo on the bill for the establishment of Kogi State University, Kabba and Other Matters Connected, 2023 has been approved by the Kogi State Executive Council (SEC).

In a press briefing by Wemi Jones Kogi State the commissioner for education, science and technology, noted that the law is one of the prerequisites for the National Universities Commission (NUC) to recognize and approve any university in Nigeria.

The exco directed the state attorney-general and commissioner for justice to transmit the bill to the House of Assembly for consideration and passage into law.

The state government is poised to work towards ensuring that the NUC would have given approval to the state university before the end of the coming weeks.

Recall that the government recently inaugurated the implementation committee chaired by a renowned professor of English Language, Olu Obafemi alongside other stakeholders to speed up the process of the University take off.

According to the commissioner, the committee after several considerations concluded that it was more expedient to start the new University at the current site of the College of Education Technical Kabba while the College of Education will be relocated to another venue.

He however revealed that the government was considering Mopamoro local government area for the project.

Meanwhile, the government has also revealed its plans to raise N15 billion for the development of a third state-owned University in Kabba
