Kaduna Police recover explosive devices, ammunition from scrap depot
The Kaduna police command has confirmed that its operatives recovered explosive devices and ammunition from a scrap depot in the state capital.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Mansir Hassan, the spokesperson for the command, explained that the discovery resulted from intelligence regarding suspicious items found at a scavengers’ company located in the Kudandan industrial area of Kaduna South Local Government Area.
“On Friday, acting on credible intelligence received, the command was alerted to the presence of suspicious items believed to be unexploded ordnance (UXOs) at a scavenger’s company in the Kudandan Industrial Area,” Hassan stated.
The spokesperson reported that the items were mixed with waste materials recently brought into the state from Borno. A team from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, headed by its commander, was dispatched to assess the situation.
“After a thorough assessment, the items were confirmed to be unexploded military-grade ordnance bombs,” he added. “The EOD team immediately evacuated the UXOs to a secure location, where they will be safely demolished in line with established safety protocols.”
In addition to the unexploded ordnance, authorities recovered a locally fabricated revolver pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition, 15 rounds of 7.2mm live ammunition, and three live cartridges, along with other assorted ammunition.
Muhammad Rabiu, the commissioner of police in Kaduna, has ordered the immediate sealing of the premises to enable the EOD unit to carry out a detailed sweep of the facility.
Rabiu emphasized the command’s commitment to public safety and urged residents to provide timely intelligence to help prevent threats and enhance overall security in Kaduna. He also warned scavenger firms against accepting items from crisis zones, directing area commanders and divisional officers to enforce compliance and arrest any violators immediately.
