Just In: Operatives rescue 38 kidnapped Eruku Church worshippers
A joint security operatives have rescued all the 38 worshippers abducted during last Tuesday’s attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke Isegun in Eruku, Kwara State.
Confirming the development on Sunday evening, the Church Secretary, Elder Michael Agbabiaka, announced that all the abductees have regained their freedom.
Agbabiaka said the church received an official notification from the Department of State Services (DSS) around 4 p.m., informing them that the victims had been rescued and were being profiled by security agencies.
He added that the entire community is anxiously awaiting their safe return.
The attack had earlier left three worshippers dead, with the incident drawing widespread condemnation and heightening concerns over worsening insecurity in Kwara’s border communities.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, said Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was elated to confirm the rescue, describing it as the outcome of “many days of hard work by all relevant security formations.”
According to the governor, President Bola Tinubu personally intervened in the rescue efforts, cancelling his scheduled trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa and directing additional military and intelligence reinforcements to the affected area.
The governor also expressed gratitude to the Office of the National Security Adviser, the DSS, Nigerian Army, National Intelligence Agency, Police, and local vigilante groups for what he called “their unwavering commitment to securing the victims’ freedom.”
The rescue marks a major relief for residents of Eruku, who have spent days in anxiety and mourning following the brutal attack on the church.
