June 12: FG declares Thursday public holiday

In commemoration of this year’s democracy day, the Federal Government has declared Thursday, June 12, 2025, as a public holiday nationwide.

The announcement was made in a statement released by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Mrs. Magdalene Ajani, on Sunday in Abuja.

In her statement, Ajani revealed that the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, declared the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulating Nigerians for enjoying a continuous 26 years of civil rule.

“June 12 represents our historic journey to building a nation where truth and justice reign and peace is sustained, ensuring our future is secure,” Tunji-Ojo stated. He emphasized that the last 26 years are a testament to Nigeria’s resilience, strength, and courage, renewing the hope of its citizens more than ever.

The Minister also reaffirmed the Renewed Hope government’s commitment under President Bola Tinubu to uphold the universal values of democracy, emphasizing the importance of the people’s freely-expressed will in shaping Nigeria’s political, economic, social, and cultural landscape.
