Israel conflict: Nigeria pilgrims safely conclude holy journey, to return on Monday

Amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinian armed group, Hamas, the first batch of Lagos State pilgrims has successfully completed their pilgrimage activities in Jerusalem.

Their safe completion of the journey has been acknowledged with gratitude.

Over 1000 casualties have been reported as a result of the recent attacks between Israel and Hamas, prompting the Lagos State Government to take precautionary measures.

The airlifting of the second batch of intending pilgrims to Israel has been suspended due to the observed security situations in the region.

Initially, some Christians from Lagos State had embarked on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, and another group was scheduled for departure on Tuesday, October 10. However, the Board Secretary of the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board (LSCPWB), Mrs. Florence Gbafe, revealed in a statement on Monday that the suspension was necessary to ensure the safety of the pilgrims.

Mrs. Gbafe assured that the LSCPWB and the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) would announce a new date for the airlifting of the second batch of pilgrims in the future. She expressed regret for any inconvenience this might cause and emphasized the commitment of both the Lagos State and federal governments to prioritize the safety of all pilgrims.

The safe return of the first batch of Lagos State pilgrims reflects the government’s dedication to ensuring the well-being of its citizens, even in the face of challenging circumstances. Their return to Nigeria was expected later on Monday, marking the completion of their pilgrimage journey.
