In a series of successful operations, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted significant drug smuggling attempts, leading to multiple arrests nationwide.

On May 3, 2025, Ihensekhien Miracle Obehi, a 24-year-old woman, was caught at the Port Harcourt International Airport while trying to smuggle cocaine. Dressed in a hijab to evade security checks, she was stopped based on credible intelligence. A search revealed that she had concealed three wraps of cocaine in her private parts, two parcels in her handbag, and had swallowed 67 pellets of the narcotic. After several days of observation, Obehi expelled the drugs, totaling 2.523 kilograms. She confessed that she had initially intended to swallow 70 pellets but could only ingest 67 before resorting to hiding the remaining three.

In a separate operation on May 9, NDLEA officers at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos apprehended Campell Kaizra Kofi Johannes Slifer, a 22-year-old British national. Arriving from Thailand, he was found with two suitcases containing 35 parcels of cannabis known as Loud, weighing a total of 37.60 kilograms. Campell revealed he had been previously convicted in the UK for drug trafficking and had been recruited to transport drugs to Nigeria.

Furthermore, in Niger State, a significant operation led to the interception of a fuel truck and three other vehicles, which were loaded with 246 bags of skunk, amounting to 3,047 kilograms. Four suspects were arrested in connection with this seizure.

In Lagos, two men were caught with over 109,000 pills of tramadol, while a separate bust in Kaduna led to the recovery of 52.5 kilograms of skunk. Additional operations resulted in the seizure of codeine syrup and cannabis across various locations in the country.

NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi stated, “The War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiatives continue as we engage in advocacy across Nigeria.” He commended the efforts of NDLEA operatives for their diligent work in combating drug trafficking.

Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), chairman and CEO of NDLEA, praised the agency’s personnel, emphasizing the need to balance drug supply reduction efforts with the ongoing fight against drug abuse in communities.
