International friendly: Portugal thrash Nigeria 4-0

The Portuguese National team on Thursday defeated Nigeria’s Super Eagles 4-0 in a friendly match played in Lisbon.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring for the hosts in the 9th minute following good work from Diogo Dalot and would later extend their lead via penalty ten minutes in to the end of first half.

Eagles came in to the second half with a renewed vigour. Their push would later handed them a penalty which was eventually missed by Dennis Bonaventure.

Dennis rejected the directive of the coach to allow William Troost-Ekong to play the spot kick and also refused to release the ball for Samuel Chukwueze.

The Portuguese picked up the pieces once again and scored their third goal through debutant Goncalo Ramos who finished off with a good strike from Guerreiro’s pass.

Joao Mario eventually sealed it for the Selecao through Goncalo Ramos’ assist.

The Super Eagles have now lost all their four friendly matches under Jose Peseiro against Mexico, Ecuador, Algeria and Portugal.

Portugal will now turn their attention to next Thursday’s Group H opener against Ghana as they aim to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in four tournaments
