Residents of Ilorin will experience an exciting day of beautiful traditional culture as Ilorin emirates plan to celebrate this year’s Ilorin Durbar in a grand style.

Durbar, an annual festival, celebrated in several northern cities of Nigeria always comes up in Ilorin on the second day of Eid el-Kabir (Ileya) festivities at the frontage of the Emir’s Palace where people come together to celebrates with traditional attires on a well dressed horses.

The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari had before now constituted a committee in preparation for the Ilorin Durbar 2018.

Alh. Sulu-Gambari during the constitution of the committee chaired by Engineer Suleiman Yahaya Alapansanpa about a month ago, noted that the Dubar ceremony was an annual event and it’s nothing new to Ilorin community but the committee was only put in place to accord it a befitting structure and make it attracts global attention and participation.

A source from the palace under the condition of anonymity disclosed that the event will commemorate the official turban ceremony of the Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki’s chieftaincy title as the Waziri Ngeri of Ilorin emirates.

Emir’s Palace, Ilorin central mosque among others historical sites have been under renovation in preparation for the grand event.

The 2018 Ilorin Durbar was planned to feature; turban ceremony, metallic sword and arrows display, horse’s dance, entertainment by noble families in royal robes among others.

Royalty, Chieftains and other traditional families have started the preparation to participate in the upcoming 2018 Ilorin Durbar as urged by the Emir, Alh Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
