Ilorin four-bedroom flat razed by fire after power surge, Fire Service blames late call

A four-bedroom flat in Ita-Elepa, Ifesowapo Street, Ilorin, was engulfed by fire on Sunday night following a power surge, the Kwara State Fire Service has confirmed.

The inferno, which broke out at approximately 8:52 p.m., was reported late, contributing to the extensive damage to the property.

According to a statement from the Fire Service, firefighters responded swiftly to the distress call, but by the time they arrived, the flames had already consumed most of the structure. Their efforts were focused on containing the fire to prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, reiterated the importance of fire safety and timely alerts, urging residents to be more vigilant to prevent such incidents.

“The Kwara State Fire Service remains committed to protecting lives and property through proactive fire prevention and rapid emergency response,” the statement read.

Residents are advised to adopt precautionary measures, and remain safety-conscious at all times to prevent fire outbreaks..
