The two domestic staff who were detained in relation with the passing of the three-year-old Ifeanyi Adeleke, the son of the popular Nigerian Singer, David Adeleke, aka Davido, and his fiancée, Chioma Rowland, may continue to be in the custody of the police until the autopsy report proves them innocent.
A reliable source, that revealed this, Wednesday, said the cook and the nanny were charged with the responsibility of taking of Ifeanyi, stressing that they might also be quilty of negligence.
The source revealed that, “The cook and the nanny were the ones directly with the child, so, they are guilty of negligence until the autopsy is conducted. During investigation, we have suspects, and depending on the case, the suspects may or may not be released.“So far, the family has not objected to the autopsy, but how fast it will be done depends on the hospital. But the next move is to review the CCTV at the house.
The Police Command in Lagos State has kept in detention two of the eight domestic workers of the popular Nigerian singer David Adeleke professionally known as Davido.
The Informant247 had earlier reported that the Lagos State police command has said that eight domestic staff of the popular Nigerian singer, David Adedeji, professionally known as Davido, are currently being questioned at the station over the reported death of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.
The two domestic staffers currently in detention are Ifeanyi’s cook and nanny as police commence plan on autopsy.
The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State police, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the nanny and cook, who has got the duty of catering for the welfare of the victim, have been kept in detention after intense interrogation.
The Informant247 learnt that Ifeanyi, reportedly drowned in a swimming pool situated in the home of the singer at Banana Island on Monday.
The boy reportedly died three days after marking his 3rd birthday anniversary.
The boy was reportedly hospitalized to Evercare Hospital in Lekki where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Davido and his fiancee were reported to have traveled for a family event in Ibadan on Monday.
Report has it that the nanny has the responsibility of taking care of the toddler when the cook joined them. The nanny was reported to have left the scene to receive a call, keeping him in care of the cook, who also equally revealed that he had left the three-year-old boy in care of the nanny.
The police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the detention of the two suspects, refused to make further details to prevent investigation into the matter.
He said, “If we need to detain them for longer than necessary, we will obtain a court order so as to ensure that we are not doing over detention or illegal detention.
“I can’t give much details about an ongoing investigation, but those two people detained are assisting us in our investigation. Those that were released have little or no bearing to the case but the two people detained are assisting us.
“Eight people were brought in for questioning, six people were allowed to go, the remaining two were the ones that have been placed under arrest and that makes them suspect.”
Asha Gangali, who’s the spokesperson for the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, has described the passing of Ifeanyi as bad news, saying that the state government show review the legislation giving people the access to own swimming pools in the state.
Gangali revealed that, “We would rather enjoin the Lagos State Government to review the permission that is given for swimming pools and certain structures in residential areas that can endanger the lives of minors.
“So, if it is approached from a law standpoint, it will be binding on all. It is not just that we are losing our precious children in the creative and movie industry, it also affects every other individual. If people should have a swimming pool in their residence, there should be precautions to prevent such happenings.”
The Nigerian Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinabjo, in a post made available via his Twitter handle, said, “Dolly & I are greatly saddened by the tragic loss of Ifeanyi, the dear son of Davido & Chioma. We pray our Lord Jesus Christ will comfort & uphold both of them through this traumatic experience. Amen. We also commiserate with our brother, Dr. Deji Adeleke and the entire Adeleke family. You are constantly in our thoughts and prayers.”
