Ibom Air apologises after ‘Obidient’ passenger disrupted flight take-off

The Management of Ibom Air has presented its apology to passengers who were on an Abuja-Lagos flight on Friday evening, March 31, 2023, over the attitude displayed by a passenger who was also on board.

The aggressive attitude exhibited by the passenger delayed the flight for one hour.

The Informant247 earlier reported that a supporter of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi was dragged out of a flight traveling from Abuja to Lagos State at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

In a video which has gone viral on social media, the unidentified lone protester could be seen shouting as he was being dragged out of the plane.

The LP’s supporter reportedly announced in the plane that the president elect, Senator Bola Tinubu must not be handed over to, come May 29.

No fewer than six security operatives of the airport dragged him out of the plane after he reportedly delayed the flight for more than one hour.

In a statement signed by the Group Manager, Marketing and Communication, Ibom Air, Aniekan Essienette, on Saturday, April 1, the organization revealed that the airline quickly intervened in the matter which eventually led to how the passenger was treated.

“We wish to inform the public about an incident on our 6 pm flight from Abuja to Lagos on Friday, 31 March 2023.

“A passenger stood up and began addressing other passengers in a manner considered inappropriate and unruly, as he was making other passengers nervous.

“Our crew deemed his continuous unruly behavior unsafe and called on airport security to help with the situation. Upon his refusal to stop or disembark peacefully, the security operatives were left with no choice but to forcefully disembark the passenger as a last option.

“We are aware that several videos and reports of this incident are circulating on social media and wish to provide the right perspective.

“Ibom Air wishes to assure our passengers that we maintain very high safety and service standards and will never compromise the safety and security of our passengers.

“We apologize to the affected passengers for the time it took to disembark this passenger, which caused an otherwise on-time departure to be delayed by an hour,” Essienette stated.
