Hunger, poverty responsible for increased ritual killings not Nollywood, Actor Yul Edochie replies Reps
Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie has condemned those blaming Nollywood for the rise in cases of ritual killings in the country, saying hunger and poverty are the main causes.
The Informant247 recalls, on Wednesday, Feburary 10, 2022, the House of Representatives called for the declaration of a state of emergency on ritual killings in the country, partly blaming the menace on the Nollywood industry and tasked all stakeholders to begin a national campaign to change the orientation of the people towards the crime.
Yul has slammed people criticizing Nollywood for the increasing rate of ritual killings across the country via his Instagram page.
He declared that poverty and hunger and not Nollywood is responsible for crimes in the country.
Yul Edochie also added that the movie industry protrays only what happens in society, adding that Nigerians are wallowing in extreme poverty.
In his word: “From when I was a kid in the eighties I started hearing about ritual killing in Nigeria. Then there was no Nollywood. Hunger and poverty make people to do crime. No be Nollywood cause am.
“Nollywood is only showing what happens in society. Nigerians are wallowing in extreme poverty. A hungry man is an angry man, fix the country and crime will go away. Don blame Nollywood.”
