In a commendable display of integrity, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) reported that troops of Operation Safe Haven declined a bribe of N13 million offered by terrorists during an operation in Plateau State.
This was made known by the Director Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen Markus Kangye, during a press briefing on military operations across the nation on Thursday.
Maj-Gen Kangye highlighted that the troops were responding to a distress call regarding terrorist activities when they encountered two individuals attempting to bribe them.
“Within the period 9 – 16 July 2025, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN conducted offensive operations and responded to distress calls about terrorists’ activities in Bassa, Barkin Ladi, South Wase, Riyom, and Jos East Local Government Areas of Plateau State, as well as Kaura and Sanga Local Government Areas of Kaduna State,” he stated.
The operation resulted in the killing of several extremists and the arrest of 12 individuals along with the rescue of three kidnapped victims. A variety of weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and vehicles were seized during the confrontations.
In a related incident, the troops apprehended seven militias/criminals during routine patrols in Barkin Ladi and Jos South in Plateau State, as well as Wamba and Sanga in Nasarawa and Kaduna States.
They recovered weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and illicit drugs from these individuals.
On July 9, 2025, the troops intercepted a vehicle with bullet holes along the Jos-Sanga road. The suspects attempted to bribe the soldiers but were met with refusal.
Following their arrest, the troops seized weapons, ammunition, a vehicle, and a sum of N13,742,000.
