Gyokeres scores twice on his Emirates debut as Arsenal trash Leeds

Viktor Gyokeres scored his first two goals for Arsenal as the Gunners handed Leeds a harsh lesson in the Premier League with a comprehensive 5-0 victory at the Emirates. This win not only showcased Arsenal’s dominance but also placed them at the top of the table, edging ahead of north London rivals Tottenham on goal difference, both teams boasting a perfect record from their opening two fixtures.

Despite the lopsided score, the victory came with concerns for manager Mikel Arteta, who saw key players Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard leave the field with injuries just days before a crucial match against Liverpool. Saka lit up the match with a blistering strike from a tight angle, doubling the Gunners’ lead after Jurrien Timber opened the scoring early on.

Gyokeres, brought in as a solution to Arsenal’s search for a prolific striker, proved his worth with a spectacular performance. He made an impressive individual run to score his first goal and later capitalized on a corner to net another, wrapping up the scoring from the penalty spot in added time.

Before the match, fans celebrated the unveiling of new £60 million signing Eberechi Ezi, who opted for Arsenal over a move to Tottenham. However, the joy was tempered by the sight of Odegaard and Saka being replaced due to injuries.

Arsenal’s resilience from set pieces was evident once again, as Timber found the net twice, proving instrumental in the team’s attack. This victory sets a strong tone for the Gunners as they navigate the early stages of the season, but the fitness of key players remains a pressing concern for Arteta.
