Gunmen kill 9 in attack on Plateau village
Tragedy struck on Monday as nine individuals lost their lives in an attack by gunmen on Adu village in Kwal District, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The spokesperson for the Miango Youths Development Association, Nuhu Bitrus, confirmed the news in Jos on Monday.
Bitrus disclosed that the attack occurred around 9 pm on Sunday.
The devastating incident prompted the community to cancel its planned activities for the celebration of Nigeria’s 63rd anniversary. Instead, the event scheduled for Monday was transformed into a day of mourning and prayer for the safety of the community’s residents.
Expressing his grief, Bitrus stated, “We are not happy that we are today mourning the death of nine of our people in Adu village who were killed last night (Sunday) in an attack. It is unfortunate that while others are celebrating Nigeria’s 63rd independence, we are gathering in Kwal to bury our people. As a community, we had planned to celebrate Nigeria’s 63rd independence celebration today (Monday) with a lot of activities, but we are not doing that anymore. We have turned the event into a prayer day for the safety of our communities.”
The youth leader urgently called on government authorities at all levels to take effective measures to prevent further attacks on Bassa communities.
As of the time of reporting, Alabo Alfred, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, was unavailable for comment on the incident.
