Gunmen attack Plateau community, kill eight-month-old baby, seven others

No fewer than eight persons, including an eight-month-old baby, have been killed by suspected gunmen in an attack on Farin Lamba village in the Vwang area of Jos South LGA in Plateau.

According to Rwang Tengwong, the national publicity secretary of Berom Youth Movement (BYM), while confirming the incident in a statement on Monday, said the gunmen attacked the community on Sunday night.

He said, “The gunmen invaded the village at about 9:45 p.m. on Sunday in a car and shot sporadically at the victims.”

“Eight persons were killed, including an eight-month-old baby.

“The minor was killed alongside the father; they were returning from the hospital.”

“The trend has led to massive destruction of farmlands, houses and other properties,” he declared,” he added.

Tengwong, however, commended operatives of Operation Save Haven and the government for taking a proactivemeasurein curtailing the insecurityin the area, while urging the residents to support security agencies in restoring peace to the communities.

When contacted, the Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, could not be reached for comment as he did not respond to calls and messages.

On July 9, Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau, imposed a 24-hour curfew on Mangu LGA following recent attacks by suspected gunmen.
