Ground rent arrears: Tinubu, Wike commended for unsealing PDP national hqtrs
Former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Federal Capital Territory Minister Mr. Nyesom Wike for their swift actions that led to the reopening of the PDP’s National Headquarters, Wadata Plaza in Abuja.
This commendation follows the sealing of the PDP headquarters and other buildings by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCDA) due to alleged non-payment of ground rents. However, after appeals from party elders and significant public outcry, President Tinubu and Minister Wike intervened, preventing further enforcement of the FCDA’s policy.
“In a statement by Chijoke Nwankwoeze, the Director of Land Administration for the FCT, it was noted that President Tinubu ordered a temporary suspension of the sealing process, giving property owners a 14-day window to resolve their issues with the FCDA,” Wabara remarked.
Senator Wabara expressed gratitude for the maturity displayed by the President and Minister in responding to the concerns of the party elders. He noted that the unsealing of the PDP’s National Secretariat serves as a reminder that constructive dialogue can achieve more than forceful actions.
“The sensitivity shown toward the people’s plight and the responsiveness to the masses’ voices is commendable,” Wabara stated.
He further added, “As the BoT Chairman of the PDP, I sincerely appreciate the magnanimity and maturity of Mr. President and the Minister of FCT in directing the unsealing of our national secretariat. This action has not only saved Nigeria’s image internationally but has also alleviated the tension caused by the FCDA’s actions.”
Wabara expressed hope that the issues would be amicably resolved with the FCDA before the end of the 14-day grace period, while urging the agency to consider the economic challenges facing many property owners in Abuja.
