Gov AbdulRazaq asked to conduct LG elections, ban open grazing

Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has been asked to conduct local government elections, establish public procurement Bureau and ban open grazing in the state.

These requests were contained in a communiqué issued and signed by the President of the Kwara Youths Assembly,  Barr. Temi Salami Nuruddin at the end of a monthly congress on evaluation of governance in Kwara state.

The communiqué, made available to newsmen on Thursday, reads “Kwara State Youth Assembly is born out of genuine concern of youths to promote good governance and also to energise young people towards political participation in the state, youths as the largest stakeholder should have a voice in affairs of the state.

“We observed that the deliberate suffocation of Local Government in the state is against the core values of democracy and campaign promises of Gov. Abdulrazaq. That Imposition of Local Government chairmen by the state government is like thrusting a hot dagger in the heart of the Nigerian Constitution. And a sheer disregard for the people of Kwara State.

The Assembly recommended a need for stronger advocacy for the government to conduct local government Elections and disband the selected Transition Implementation Committee chairmen.

It said, “We observed that procurement process in the state is devoid of transparency, accountability, integrity, and value for money.

“An advocacy for the establishment of State Bureau for Public Procurement to ensure value for money principle, transparency, accountability, and integrity.

“We called on the Kwara state government to ban the archaic practice of open grazing within the state to fulfill her constitutional obligation to protect lives and properties, as open grazing is a threat to the properties of farmers and a direct nexus to insecurity.

“Therefore, We advocate that the Kwara State House of Assembly to legislate banning of open grazing accross the state.”
