Four dead, five missing as boat capsizes in Sokoto
The Sokoto State Government has confirmed the tragic death of four passengers in a boat accident that occurred in Kojiyo village, Goronyo Local Government Area.
The incident took place along the Sokoto Rima River around 1:00 pm on Sunday when the boat capsized, resulting in chaos and distress among the passengers.
As the search for survivors continues, authorities have reported that five passengers are still missing, while 41 others have been successfully rescued, according to Malam Abubakar Bawa, the spokesman for Governor Ahmed Aliyu, in a statement released on Friday.
The confirmation of fatalities followed an extensive search and fact-finding mission conducted by officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and the Goronyo Local Government Council.
In the wake of the incident, Deputy Governor Hon. Idris Muhammed Gobir led a government delegation to the area, where they expressed condolences to the community of Goronyo LGA and offered support to the bereaved families affected by this devastating event.
