Flooding forces landlords to leave their homes in Benin due to rising waters
Flooding has forced many landlords in Express Avenue, Benin City, to abandon their homes as the area becomes increasingly unlivable.
They have called on the Edo State Government, asking Governor Godwin Obaseki for urgent help.
According to a letter sent by the community leaders, around ten landlords have already left their homes due to the health risks and financial stress caused by the floods.
You The letter, signed by Mr. Courage Asia, the community chairman, and Victor Ofure Osehobo, the Public Relations Officer, described how severe flooding has worsened during this rainy season, damaging homes, roads, and infrastructure.
The residents believe that a nearby moat on the eastern end of Express Avenue could help with drainage if it is included in a larger flood management plan.
They urged the state government to use this natural resource as part of a rehabilitation effort for their community.
Expressing confidence in the government’s commitment to development, they hope for quick action to ease their suffering and restore safety to their neighborhood.
