First Lady reaffirms Tinubu’s commitment to healthcare service delivery in Niger Delta
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to providing affordable and accessible healthcare to underserved communities, particularly in the Niger Delta.
Speaking on Thursday at the launch of a health insurance scheme for vulnerable groups and the commissioning of a cottage hospital in Otuasega, Bayelsa State, she emphasized the Federal Government’s focus on improving healthcare access and reducing mortality rates.
The event, organized by the Niger Delta Development Commission in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Initiative, included the flag-off of the NDDC’s 2025 free medical outreach and the donation of medical equipment to health facilities in the region.
“The beneficiaries of this programme are the nine states of the Niger Delta region, namely, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Rivers, Edo, Imo, Abia, and Ondo states, with Bayelsa State graciously hosting us today,” she announced.
Senator Tinubu highlighted the ongoing NDDC-RHI collaborations, which also provide educational support for students, stipends for interns, and infrastructure projects aimed at improving living conditions in the region.
Regarding education, she noted that the NDDC’s previous interventions included the provision of over 45,000 preloaded educational tablets and textbooks to students in urban and rural communities across the NDDC states.
Moreover, she mentioned the disbursement of N50,000 monthly stipends to 500 pre-identified beneficiaries for a year through the states’ first ladies, resembling a conditional cash transfer program.
The medical outreach program, conducted quarterly, aims to deliver essential health services directly to communities, addressing common health issues and raising awareness about maternal and child health.
In addition, she announced the donation of 11 fully equipped ambulances and personal protective equipment to improve healthcare delivery and emergency response across the NDDC states.
These initiatives align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, particularly in the areas of education, health, and social investment, aimed at building a healthier and more empowered populace.
NDDC Managing Director, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, stated that the partnership with the RHI focuses on delivering development in health, education, and other social services.
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, commended the Federal Government for its developmental projects in the state, especially regarding road infrastructure that connects coastal communities.
