Fire razes two buildings, five shops in Ilorin

A fire outbreak on Saturday destroyed one storey building and a bungalow in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.

The Informant247After INFORMANT247 report, Kwara govt accepts Foundation’s support on road rehabilitation gathered that the ferocious fire, emanated from a paint shop in Balogun Afin, at Ita-Kure area of the metropolis.

The rampaging fire also reportedly gutted five other shops in the vicinity.

Hassan Adekunle, the spokesperson of Kwara Fire Service, while confirming the incident, said the fire destroyed properties worth millions, putting the loss in monetary term at about N38.8 million.

He said “A paints shop suddenly caught fire and destroyed two residential buildings built beside it; a storey building and a bungalow.”

“Aside the two residential buildings destroyed by the ravaging fire, five other shops in the vicinity were also affected.

“Firemen were able to extinguish the fire and prevented it from spreading to more buildings.

“The fire was intensified by the flammable nature of paints and would have been contained earlier if onlookers and sympathisers had alerted the Fire Service early enough,’’ Adekunle stated.

He attributed the heavy loss to the chemical nature of the burning materials and delay by sympathisers to respond to situation.

However, Adekunle urged residents of the State to cultivate the habit of switching off their electrical appliances even before the bedtime.
