Fire razes residential building in Ilorin

A two-storey building comprising six flats, has been affected by fire outbreak, where one room was badly affected by the inferno.

It was gathered that the incident which occured on Sunday, 23rd November 2025, at 2:02 pm at Majasurawa Compound, located in the Ilorin Grammar School area, Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State, was promptly responded to by the men of the Kwara State Fire Service.

According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the swift and professional action displayed by the fire crew successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other rooms and adjoining flats within the building.

“Preliminary investigation suggested that the fire was caused by a power surge, which ignited materials within the affected room,” the statement added

The statement, however, qouted the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urging residents to ensure proper electrical load management, use quality surge protectors, and conduct routine checks on their wiring systems, stressing that electrical fluctuations remain one of the most common causes of residential fires, while advising the public to prioritize preventive safety measures.
