Fire guts shops in Ilorin
A building consisting of 4 rooms and 23 shops was engulfed in flames at Onimamayin Street, Agbo Oba, Taiwo Oke Area, Ilorin.
According to a statement Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, Head, Media and Publicity, the inferno which occurred on Thursday, October 17, 2024, was caused as a result of a power surge.
The Statement said that the men of the fire service, in a swift response to the incident, put off the fire to avert more dangers.
The Statement reads,”On Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 22:05 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service swiftly responded to a fire outbreak at Onimamayin Street, Agbo Oba, Taiwo Oke area, Ilorin.
Upon arrival, it was discovered that a building consisting of 4 rooms and 23 shops was engulfed in flames. Thanks to the quick and effective response of the brave officers from the Kwara State Fire Service, only 9 shops were affected by the inferno. Unfortunately, a provision store and several industrial sewing machines were lost in the incident.
However, the Director of Kwara State Fire Service expressed sympathy to the victims, praying for the restoration of their losses, and urged the public to remain vigilant and safety-conscious, ensuring that all electrical appliances are unplugged when not in use.
